Traffic Control

Traffic Control is a multi-protocol message router which acts as a central hub for all SMS, MMS and IMS messaging traffic in a network. Traffic Control can be used by network operators to maximise profits and revenues derived from messaging services.

Like SMS routers provided by other vendors, Traffic Control can route traffic directly to recipients, bypassing legacy SMSC systems in the process. This allows the network to handle higher traffic volumes at lower cost. Unlike other routing products available in the market, Traffic Control also supports MMS and IMS message routing, and can trigger new services hosted on an optional Profile module that are based on the personal preferences of the originator or recipient. In addition, Operators gain from the security and anti-spam features provided by the Protect module. Finally, our customers can take advantage of the Adapt open API to design and build unique services tailored for their own subscribers.

Traffic Control Modules

Monetizing Messaging – Profile
Flexible Messaging – Adapt
Securing Messaging – Protect.

Traffic Control is protocol and feature rich.
Traffic Control complies with all major telecommunications industry protocols and next generation mobile networks including: SMS (MAP, SMPP, OIS, CMID, UCP); MMS (MM1, MM3, MM4, MM7); IMS (ISC, SIP SIMPLE); SIGTRAN (SUA, M3UA, SCTP).

Traffic Control features include:

Deliver as many messages as possible as efficiently as possible, Minimise need for store and forward servers, Provide opportunity to trigger enhanced services to combat declining revenues, Inspect traffic for spam and fraud, Offer interworking to IM, IMS and MMS networks, Allow operators to deploy new services, Aid in migration from SMS to IMS and MMS, Support pre- and post-paid charging payment options, Offer consistent services for on-net & off-net originated and roaming traffic, Allows operators to handle extremely large message volumes at fraction of the cost of SMSC based architectures, Routes messages from: Mobile to mobile, Application to mobile, Mobile to Application, “Store and Forward” only used if message cannot be delivered immediately to its destination, 80% of traffic delivered directly, Operators can build new revenue streams by using Traffic Control to trigger additional service logic residing outside the router, Traffic Control supports routing and application triggers for SMS, MMS, IM and IMS, No reliance on third party RDBMS, All messages stored in 2 physical locations, Supports geographical redundancy, Can store SMS, MMS, IM and IMS messages, Back-ups and archiving fully controllable by system administrator, as all SMS traffic is intercepted by Traffic Control, Operators can rely on the system as a single source of charging information, CDRs are created for all messages processed by the system, CDR details include: Point of origin of message, A record of applications triggered & changes applied, Original destination address, Redirected destination address, if applicable, Real time charging also supported in-line for message flows: Diameter, INAP, PSA

Openmind Networks and the GSM Association (GSMA) Open Connectivity SMS Hubbing Trial

In 2006 Openmind Networks’ advanced message routing solution Traffic Control successfully completed the GSMA’s Open Connectivity SMS hubbing trials. These trials were conducted in order to establish the validity of newly defined hubbing arrangements that can streamline the process of implementing SMS Inter-working agreements between operators. By deploying Traffic Control, wholesale operators can provide SMS hubbing solutions to their clients in accordance with GSMA Open Connectivity specifications.

Traffic Control has proven capability to act as a hub solution for interconnect SMS and MMS traffic routed between mobile operators via one or more wholesale carriers. The telco grade performance and reliability of Traffic Control is further underpinned by product features such as TCAP Negotiation, Multi Protocol Support, Address Transparency, Black Listing, Fraud Prevention and Billing.

In previously deployed commercial solutions, Openmind Networks pre-empted the Open Connectivity project by designing alternatives to bilateral agreements for SMS inter-working. The flexibility of our platform ensures that wholesale operators can continue to maintain previous inter-working solutions in parallel to Open Connectivity compliant interfaces.

Message-OS

The Message-OS platform has been designed by Openmind Networks to provide a unified management, access and control layer for SMS and MMS services in a telecom network. The platform allows operators to handle all of their current messaging traffic at one centralised location and offers a seamless migration path to future messaging services and IMS. Openmind has developed a suite of products that exploit the underlying capabilities of the platform to address key business areas including inter- and intra-operator message routing, spam and privacy protection, personalised service support and adaptation to standard compliant application servers.

Redundancy is provided via a cluster of identical hardware components residing on a high-speed LAN. All components are active. Processing and data storage is distributed across available servers. If one server fails, this will be detected by the remainder of the cluster which will automatically re-adjust to compensate for the missing component. If one process instance fails, this will also be detected by the cluster, and applicable traffic will be routed to an alternate instance of the same process. All volatile and non-volatile data is stored in at least 2 locations for recovery purposes
