Openmind is an active participant in the GSM Association “Open Connectivity” push to simplify
International routing and roaming services. We have worked actively at the group discussion
stages and also in the field trial stages to help implement the GSM Association vision. These
trials have been very successful and the “Open Connectivity” Vision is permeating International
routing and roaming.
SMS and MMS – Still Growing and Important Higher Margin services
SMS is still one of the higher margin services offered by the Mobile Industry and the
existing customer appetite for it is not diminishing. In fact, SMS usage is growing strongly
across all markets but especially in markets such as North America and the emerging markets.
This represents a great opportunity for Wholesale Operators to add new higher margin revenue
services to their existing voice services.
MMS traffic is taking off as customers become familiar with the richer content services that
it provides. It is starting from a lower level than SMS but still represents important revenue
and a stepping stone to the future IPX services that the Wholesale Market is moving to.
